Bleach is best known for its cleaning properties. Well, how about using bleach for unclogging toilets?

When you don’t have a plunger or a drain cleaning chemical, cleaning toilet blockages might be a hard task. Pouring hot water obviously works the best in most of the cases. However, pouring hot water over blocked toilet would only overflow your toilet. When you have none of the home remedies left, trying bleach as a solution will always sound appealing.

Will Bleach unclog a toilet?

Bleach is not as effective as drain cleaning chemicals but it definitely can unclog toilets in most of the cases. Bleach is  a generic term for chemicals used in houses to remove stains in a process called bleaching. It is known for its cleaning properties and can easily break down a toilet clog unless it is a major plumbing problem.

Here is why bleach can break down clogs…

Bleach has a very high composition of chemical called chlorine. It releases oxygen molecules that breaks up chemical bonds in the cleaning process. Similar to the cleaning process, bleach can also break chemical bonds specially if the toilet is blocked due to toilet paper or organic materials like hair.

Step by Step: Unclogging Toilet With Bleach

First of all, bleach should always be used with caution. Please wear rubber gloves and avoid getting bleach on your hands. Also, don’t forget to open window so that there is pepper air circulation in the room.

Step 1: Pour 1-4 cups of bleach in the toilet.

Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Step 2!

Step 3: Turn on the water valve and flush the toilet.

Bleach can also be used along with hot water for the best results. When you are using hot water, simply, pour boiling hot water to bowl instead of flushing for the best results/

DIY Ideas for unclogging a toilet!

Except for using bleach there are some other DIY solutions as well, which are always available at most of our homes. Some of those DIY toilet unclogging ideas are;

  1. Using baking soda + vinegar: Add a cup of baking soda and wait until it settles at the bottom. Press the flush button and pour in 1-2 cups of vinegar in order to start the reaction.
  2. Soap and hot water: Adding liquid soap or bar soap and flushing is one of the best home remedies for clogged toilets. It helps to relieve the clog by lubricating the blocked part.
  3. Use wire hanger: A wire hanger is a life saving tool. You can use any spare wire hanger to untwist it to make it longer. This wire can be changed to desirable shape and is one of the best tools when it comes to unblocking toilet drains.

When the home remedies does not work, you  can always visit your local hardware store. Bunnings or even stores like Woolworths stock plungers. Other tools that can help you out would be chemical drain cleaner or a drain snake.

Outstanding plumbing service!
Chris was incredibly professional, punctual, and thorough. He quickly found the cause of our drainage issue using a camera inspection and explained everything clearly. The job was done neatly, efficiently, and with great attention to detail. Highly recommend Chris for anyone needing a reliable and skilled plumber.

Dial up plumbing were honest and upfront with the costs associated with the job.
In addition, they also too made a video of the problem areas with ongoing comments while the job was being performed.
I’d recommend these guys to anyone who have plumbing issues

My family are very satisfied and impressed with this plumbing company. We live in the Liverpool area. Charlie visited us for a quote on a kitchen tap replacement and toilet repairs. He was very friendly and professional, took the time to explain the repairs and discuss prices. Chris then carried out the repairs the same day and he was equally as friendly and professional. We were so impressed with the work.
We also had an emergency hot water system repair after hours the next week. We contacted Charlie who was so very helpful over the phone. Losing hot water can be stressful but he put us at ease. He attended within 30 mins and again explained the issue and cost. Once we agreed on the price he completed the repairs right away and we had hot water again. I have to say again how helpful Charlie was to us because losing hot water can be stressful especially the time of night everyone needs to shower. We are so grateful to finally find a plumbing company that is professional, honest, friendly and genuine on both occasions.
